Trailer Service Technician
Established for over 35 years, we are a reputable and growing full-service commercial truck and trailer dealership specializing in the sales, service, repair, and maintenance of heavy-duty trailers and commercial vehicles. We are seeking an experienced Service Technician to join our team and perform high-quality diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs that help keep our customers' fleets safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance.
The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on commercial trailers and related equipment while ensuring all work complies with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company quality standards. Inspection & Diagnostics
Perform comprehensive inspections of trailers and related equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and structural issues.
Identify safety concerns and recommend necessary repairs.
Complete Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections as qualified.
Repairs & Maintenance
Repair and replace brake systems, suspension components, wheel-end assemblies, axles, hubs, bearings, and landing gear.
Perform preventative maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications.
Repair trailer lighting, wiring, ABS systems, and electrical components.
Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repairs on aluminum and steel trailers.
Repair roofs, floors, doors, sidewalls, liftgates, and trailer bodies.
Service air systems and pneumatic components.
Replace damaged components using OEM repair procedures.
Customer Service
Explain repair recommendations when requested.
Ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time.
Maintain professionalism with customers and coworkers.
Deliver quality workmanship that promotes customer satisfaction.
Documentation
Complete repair orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Record labor hours, parts used, and repair descriptions.
Document inspection findings and communicate additional repair needs.
Maintain compliance with warranty documentation requirements.
Safety
Follow OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety procedures.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Properly handle hazardous materials and waste disposal.
Report unsafe conditions immediately.
Equipment Maintenance
Maintain company tools and equipment.
Inspect shop equipment before use.
Notify management of damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
Keep service bays clean and organized.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Technical school or vocational training in diesel or trailer repair preferred.
2+ years of trailer, heavy-duty truck, or diesel equipment repair experience preferred.
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass pre-employment physical.
Welding certification is a plus.
DOT Inspection Certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Knowledge of trailer brake systems.
Knowledge of suspension and axle systems.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems.
Ability to read repair manuals and service bulletins.
Experience using diagnostic equipment.
Ability to safely operate shop equipment.
Basic computer skills for repair documentation.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to prioritize multiple repair orders.
Physical Requirements
The employee must regularly:
Lift up to 75 pounds.
Stand, bend, kneel, squat, and climb throughout the workday.
Work underneath trailers and heavy equipment.
Use hand tools and power tools continuously.
Work in indoor and outdoor environments.
Tolerate varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Maintain manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Occasionally work overtime or weekends as needed.
