Position Summary

Marlin Construction Services is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Sitework Estimator to join our growing team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil and site development projects, including excavation, grading, utilities, drainage, paving, concrete, and related infrastructure work. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site utilities, stormwater systems, paving, concrete, and related sitework activities.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Develop detailed project cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.
• Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs to ensure competitive pricing.
• Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability concerns.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and operations personnel during the estimating process.
• Prepare bid summaries, scopes of work, and proposal packages.
• Maintain and update historical cost databases and estimating resources.
• Assist with project handoff meetings after award to ensure smooth transition to operations.
• Track bid results and perform post-bid analysis to improve future estimating accuracy.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, site development, or utility construction.
• Strong understanding of:
• • Earthwork and mass grading
  • Underground utilities (storm, sanitary, water)
  • Roadway and paving construction
  • Concrete and site structures
  • Erosion and sediment control
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites.

Preferred

• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, Agtek, Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar estimating software.
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Experience estimating public, municipal, DOT, commercial, or private site development projects.
• Knowledge of NJDOT specifications and local site development requirements.
