Position Summary

The Outside Scaffold Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business opportunities, maintaining existing customer relationships, and generating revenue through the rental, sale, and service of scaffold and access equipment. This position requires regular jobsite visits, customer meetings, project tracking, and coordination with operations to ensure successful project execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within assigned territory.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, industrial facilities, and property owners.
  • Conduct jobsite visits to evaluate access requirements and identify potential sales opportunities.
  • Generate and follow up on leads, proposals, and quotations.
  • Meet or exceed established sales and profitability goals.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of prospective projects and customers.

Customer Service & Account Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the sales process.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding scaffold and access solutions.
  • Resolve customer concerns and coordinate with internal departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing customers to encourage repeat business.

Estimating & Project Support

  • Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine scaffold requirements.
  • Prepare accurate quotations, proposals, and rental agreements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project management teams regarding project requirements.
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and scope development.

Jobsite & Safety Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and access requirements.
  • Promote safe scaffold practices and compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
  • Identify potential jobsite hazards and communicate concerns to customers and internal teams.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate customer and project information within CRM and company systems.
  • Submit weekly sales activity reports and forecasts.
  • Track project opportunities from bid stage through project completion.
  • Assist with collections and account management as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-5 years of outside sales experience, preferably in scaffolding, construction, industrial services, or equipment rental.
  • Strong understanding of scaffold systems, suspended access equipment, and construction practices preferred.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit active construction and industrial job sites.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas when required.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Company Description Contractors Access Equipment formed in 2001, primarily providing suspended scaffold to the Chicago area. A few years later, the company expanded, developing branches in Dallas and Tampa. In 2009, the company acquired three locations of Direct Scaffold Services which are in Nashville, Jackson, and Birmingham. Since then, the company has added CAE branches in Miami / Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Austin, San Antonio, and Milwaukee and a DSS branch was added in Raleigh, NC; Atlanta, GA; and Mobile, AL.

The company now has a total of 15 locations around the country with skilled scaffold erectors and qualified scaffold trainers at each location. The company has approximately $20 million in a very diverse scaffold inventory which includes system scaffold, frame and brace scaffold, suspended scaffold, shoring, sidewalk canopies, mast climbers, elevators, and transport platforms. The company has seen significant growth in revenue and profitability in each of the last 10 years, and where needed has bonding capabilities of $25 million.
