Senior Electronics Technician

Irvine, CA

The Senior Electronics Technician supports engineering development activities through advanced troubleshooting, prototype assembly, testing, modification, and maintenance of electronic systems, assemblies, and laboratory equipment used in product development. This role involves complex technical work such as circuit-level diagnostics, board bring-up, instrumentation setup, failure analysis, and prototype support. You will work closely with engineers to meet development priorities in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, testing, and validation of:

o Electronic assemblies

o Printed circuit boards (PCBs)

o Subassemblies and prototype systems

Use schematics, technical documentation, and lab equipment to diagnose issues

Execute precision hand soldering and rework for:

o Surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components

o Fine-pitch devices (QFN, QFP, BGA, 0201/01005 components)

Utilize microscopes and precision tools to ensure high-quality soldering and placement

Build, modify, and assemble:

o Prototypes

o Cables

o Fixtures and test setups

Conduct diagnostics and failure analysis using:

o Oscilloscopes

o Multimeters

o Logic analyzers

o Signal generators

Support prototype bring-up, debugging, and engineering design modifications

Interpret and work from:

o Schematics

o Wiring diagrams

o Assembly drawings

o Bills of materials (BOMs)

Collaborate closely with engineers on:

o Prototype builds

o Testing

o Troubleshooting and issue resolution

Assist with component and material evaluations during development

Document:

o Test results

o Technical observations

o Prototype changes

o Repair work

Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient lab environment

Identify opportunities to improve:

o Lab processes

o Test methods

o Workflow efficiency

Provide guidance and support to junior technicians


Minimum Qualifications

6+ years of experience in:

o Electronics technician work

o Engineering lab support

o Prototype development or related fields

Strong experience troubleshooting:

o Analog circuits

o Digital circuits

Advanced micro-soldering and rework capabilities

Proficiency with standard electronic lab instruments

Ability to:

o Repair and replace PCB components

o Interpret schematics and technical documentation

Strong problem-solving and multitasking skills

Excellent written and verbal communication



Preferred Qualifications

Experience in:

o Medical devices or regulated manufacturing environments

o High-reliability product development

Familiarity with:

o Failure analysis

o Component evaluation

o Lab test setup

Knowledge of engineering change processes and quality documentation

Experience mentoring or supporting junior technicians



Education

Associate degree in:

o Electronics Technology

o Electrical Engineering Technology

o Or a related field

Equivalent combination of technical training and experience may be considered



Language Requirements

Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)

Ability to:

o Interpret technical documents and schematics

o Clearly document technical findings

o Communicate with cross-functional teams
