General Summary

Operate machines as required. Operate various machines, (drill presses, lathes, mills, CNCs, etc ).

Verify and maintain quality of work produced. Monitor machine and tooling to insure proper and safe

operation. Complete all tags, cards and charts. Train and assist other operators in all of the above.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist and train other machine operators with startups and charting/documentation as needed.

2. Replace worn or broken tooling and record changes in tool history.

3. Verify parts meet print specifications and check frequently or per work instructions throughout the shift;

adjust offsets as required or obtain assistance to maintain nominal dimensions.

4. Cross-train in various machining centers.

5. Facilitate machine program changeovers; validate correct CNC program and fixturing for parts

machining.

6. Start-up machines, including operator PM procedures; change and complete offset adjustments on

tooling as required.

7. Load parts and operate machines safely and properly following established operating procedures,

work instructions, or direction from the supervisor or lead.

8. Make adjustments to tool and work offsets as needed to maintain part quality and meet print

specifications.

9. Shut down and report any process that is not operating properly to the supervisor or lead.

10. Operate multiple machines simultaneously as defined by standard operating documents.

11. Perform first-piece and in-process inspections, including routine inspections using visual checks or

measuring devices (e.g., micrometers, calipers).

12. Visually inspect parts for chips, burrs, cleanliness, broken tooling, defective paint, and porosity.

13. Complete scrap tags, mark defective areas of parts, and forward to the supervisor or lead for

disposition.

14. Maintain quality of work through visual inspection, testing, and adherence to inspection work

instructions; notify the supervisor or lead of any nonconformities and document as required.

15. Maintain a safe and clean work area by following 6S procedures.

16. Follow all ISO procedures and participate in continuous improvement activities.

17. Consistently demonstrate professional behavior (e.g., respectful, cooperative, trustworthy, willing to

assist others, and take ownership in problem solving).

18. Track productivity using hour-by-hour boards and communicate machine downtime or other

production issues (e.g., part shortages, broken tooling, significant quality concerns).

19. Participate in Kaizen events impacting machining and overall operations.

Requirements of Knowledge, Skill and Ability

1. Must have the ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions in order to perform the duties

described above.

2. Must possess the ability to perform basic arithmetic required for charting and calculating order

quantities, machine and tooling adjustments.

3. Ability to meet production requirements, concentrate and pay attention to detail.

4. Ability to stand 85-100% of the time.

5. Demonstrated proficiency operating at least four (4) machining centers.

6. Comprehensive understanding of part defects, as well as machine operations, tooling requirements,

and assembly practices.

7. Ability to identify part defects, as well as specific tooling required by machining centers.

8. Ability to document and communicate any part shortages, disruptions and/or any positive progress

during the workday.

9. Possess written and verbal communication skills in order to provide next shift with pertinent information

concerning instructions, machine operations, part shortages and schedule changes.
