Morningside University is accepting applications for the position of HVAC & General Electrical Technician in the Physical Plant Department. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of air conditioners, coolers, freezers, boilers, and related HVAC controls. The role also provides secondary support for general electrical work and other maintenance tasks as assigned. Normal work hours are 6:00 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday and an on-call schedule as needed.

Responsibilities:

HVAC Systems (Primary Focus)

Inspect, maintain and repair air conditioning equipment.

Maintain digital and pneumatic control systems, thermostats, and valves.

Maintain and troubleshoot foodservice cooling equipment.

Diagnose and repair HVAC mechanical and electrical control issues.

Respond to service requests, work orders.

Monitor building controls and adjusts equipment for proper performance.

Preventive Maintenance

Participate in developing preventive maintenance schedules.

Complete preventive maintenance tasks according to schedule and document work performed.

Electrical Systems (Secondary Support)

Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, outlets, lighting, motors, fans, boilers, and air conditioners.

Assist with maintenance of fire alarm systems.

  • Install or support installation of electrical systems as needed.

General Maintenance

Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs within buildings.

Complete basic carpentry tasks, including repairs to locks, closets, furniture, and doors.

Assist with snow removal for sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots.

Complete work orders and other assigned maintenance tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED

Previous HVAC experience required.

Refrigeration license preferred.

Electrical experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water coolers
  • Training in theory and hands on work with refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning systems.
  • Understanding of industry standards and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively with others.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks as required.

Demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, timeliness, and dependability.

Provides excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

Physical requirements include:

o Lifting up to 50 lbs ( 30% weekly)

o Overhead reaching ( 15% weekly)

o Ladder use ( 15% weekly)

o Squatting ( 20% weekly)
